The routine is so tight in Korea, as people believe spending more hours in office yields utmost productivity. Anyway it’s just a belief. After a hectic day I got down from my bus and went into a kimbabnara which is more like our darshani’s in Bangalore. Winter was almost over and the trees started covering itself with budding leaves. How different is this nature, humans cover fully to withstand cold where as trees stand nude in winter. It’s all ultimately his game. Once I stepped inside the hotel I knew nothing than ordering a ramiyan which is a Korean dish having noodles cooked in a spicy vegetable soup. This is one of the best foods for vegetarians. In that cool winter where temperature was below -2 degrees I was enjoying the ramiyan. Something on the TV suddenly pulled my attention, I could hear Korean news talking about Indo which they usually address India as. For my curiosity I turned towards the TV and started watching the news. It was all about the great story that had shaken the foolish Indian minds, singing of its glory day and night. It was nothing but the movie Slum dog millionaire which had won 8 Oscars.
Let’s forget about the Oscars that some Indians had won for some time and just think about how the news was telecasted. My eyes were filled in tears and I had to just bend down my head in front of all the people sitting around me.
“Janani janmabhomischa swargadapi gariyasi” as truly said, mother and motherland are greater than heaven. A land which has always preached universal brotherliness, a land which was patiently allowing the Muslim kings and the westerners stab it from back, a land which has always practiced tolerance over any religions, a land which got punished itself for others happiness, a land which happily takes care of people as her own children who reverts her back with a terror war, a land with so much of deeds on one side and this was the land which gave birth to civilizations, this was the land which preached a religion which is the mother of all others, this was the land which had kingdoms where diamonds were sold on road, this was the land which was over whelming with culture and prosperity. Pages would not be sufficient explaining the greatness of this land. Such a land was shown as people lying like dogs on the streets badly drunken, children drenched with hunger and poverty fighting for a piece of bread, women who does not know anything other than prostitution, houses are nothing but for some plastic sheets tied across poles. The news proudly says that a country like this could still make up with 8 Oscars. This was the news that was telecasted on a channel and people across the globe watch this. Now tell me are Oscars great or our country.
I hope most of us would have seen the movie Slum dog millionaire; so much of publicity was given to the movie before it entered the market itself. I could see something’s which many of us would have seen but never given a thought about it. I think if it was watched closely as a movie par entertainment, we, as Indians would have felt pinched. It says a lot about people and the culture that is prevailing in most of our country. It just portrays the slum part of India, and never differentiates it with the other; I felt it portrayed India as a country of slums. I feel afraid to even visualize some of the clips of that movie. Whether it was the police harassing the kid or the kid jumping into the shit pit, or it was the small children’s eyes being removed or the girl put into prostitution. Did the entire movie had at least one or two clips show casing the good part of India or the organized part, or the matured part or what ever nice it could have shown about. None of the kind mentioned above was seen in the movie. I watched the entire movie and could not even realize the quality of music. Why people do this, showing some country’s poor life and bagging awards for it, like taking a photo of a living child’s body being carried away by a vulture in Africa and winning an award for photography. Please give a serious think to this. I am afraid; the tourists across the globe would dare entering this country. Such a cruel and a bad picture kept in front of the world unfolded. Also I pity Rehman, as I know or feel his other collections are definitely more a masterpiece’s than what was recognized. The same movie would have gone unnoticed unless it was not touched by foreign producers. This clearly shows the apartheid that is still followed in the Hollywood and I pity Indians for dancing and celebrating the Oscars. There are many more Indian movies which have not even heard of Oscars but have given mankind a beautiful moral. It is pathetic that Oscars never sees beyond Hollywood movies.
Ultimately it is a clear presentation of the First world countries still trying to overpower the so named third world counties and celebrate the occasions depicting the poverty and ruthless dirty unrealistic scenes form these countries. It’s not a time to rejoice and celebrate rather its high time we think and reject such awards showing the greatness of India. I remember the greatness of Smt. M.S Subbulakshmi who was given the magsessey award in Philippines, where she returned back the entire amount for the betterment of people of Philippines. This is being a true Indian. People should be hanged not pardoned for letting down their country in front of the other competitive world and accepting awards for a totally unworthy affair.
